NEW DELHI - A small firearm was recovered from a security official with a foreign team during frisking Sunday near the entrance of a luxury hotel in Delhi that is hosting the Commonwealth Games, a home ministry official said.

“The accused was part of the security staff attached to a foreign team. He was carrying a diplomatic pass and was not authorised to carry any arms,” the official said.

A small firearm was recovered from the person during security check near the entrance of the Ashoka Hotel, he said.

A number of foreign officials are staying in the hotel for the showpiece event in India for which authorities have made tight security arrangements in the wake of terror threats, though there was no specific alert.

“People from other countries who were present there were very happy with the alertness of the security personnel after they recovered the gun,” he said.

The accused was questioned by security agencies and later let off.
