NEW DELHI - Over 100 fortified security pickets were erected for the first time at various important Delhi Metro stations to avoid possible terror attacks during the Commonwealth Games, a Delhi metro official said.

According to the official, the pickets, constructed with sand-bags, are manned by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel.

The CISF, which gives security cover to the Delhi Metro, has deployed about 2,000 additional personnel at important stations like Rajiv Chowk (Connaught Place), Central Secretariat and Kashmere Gate, among others.

A joint security audit was carried out by central security agencies, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and officials of the Home Ministry to decide on the stations for setting up the pickets.
