Bopanna-Aisam duo advances to Shanghai Masters pre-quarterfinals

ISLAMABAD - The tennis duo comprising Rohan Bopanna of India and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan has advanced to the second round of the 2010 Shanghai Masters.

The ‘Indo-Pak Express’ beat Mark Knowles of Bahamas and Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany in a gruelling 7-6 (9/7), 6-2 win.

Playing their first match together after the US Open final, Qureshi and Bopanna made a slow start to the match and were broken in their first service game, but finally overcame their opponents in the game that lasted 80 minutes.

Bopanna’s strong serve game and Qureshi’s slick volleys helped them bag the first set at 9-7 in the tie break.he high-intensity first set sent the duo back into rhythm in the following set. Qureshi and Bopanna twice broke their opponents’ serve, and Qureshi then served out the match with ease for a 6-2 scoreline in the second set.he South Asian duo hit six aces and won 68 points, in comparison to Knowles-Kohschreiber duo’s two aces and 63 points.

Qureshi and Bopanna will now face seventh seeded pair of Wesley Moodie and Dick Norman in the pre-quarterfinals. (ANI)
