NEW DELHI - Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CGOC) chairperson Suresh Kalmadi’s gaffes continued, even at the closing ceremony of the mega event.

In his speech Thursday evening, Kalmadi offered special thanks to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain for the efforts in the run up to the Games.

However, for Kalmadi’s knowledge: Kanwar Sain is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor besides being the former mayor of the MCD. He has been succeeded by co-partyman Prithviraj Sawney.

Earlier too, on the opening ceremony Oct 3, Kalmadi had mistakenly addressed former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam as Abdul Kalam Azad, noted freedom fighter and India’s first education minister.

During the Games itself, the Indian Olympic Association president had at a press conference Oct 5 said that Prince Diana, instead of Prince Charles, attended the opening ceremony Oct 3.
