NEW DELHI - If the crowd response at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is any indication, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is the most popular VIP — and Suresh Kalmadi the least loved personality.

Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur got the loudest cheers at the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony when they took their seats in the huge stadium.

The loudest and most embarrassing jeers were reserved for Games honchos Suresh Kalmadi and Lalit Bhanot.

As Kalmadi mentioned Bhanot’s name to acknowledge the efforts of those who helped in making the Games a success, there was loud booing from the thousands packing the stadium.

Kalmadi also faced the wrath of the audience on his arrival at the stadium. He was loudly jeered.

The only time the crowd clapped Kalmadi was when he thanked Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for helping to organised the Games in the Indian capital.
