NEW DELHI - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday said Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit must be removed or resign on her own to ensure a fair inquiry into the Commonwealth Games irregularities.

“According to information received under an RTI (Right to Information) inquiry, open corruption of hundreds of crores (of rupees) committed by the Delhi government in two important projects has come to the fore. The CVC (Central Vigilance Commission) has also confirmed this. In the wake of this, either she should resign or be relieved of her responsibilities,” Delhi’s BJP chief Vijendra Gupta told reporters.

Gupta said that on one hand a “drama of inquiry” is being played while on the other corrupt people and contractors are being paid continuously.

“So I demand that all the payments related to the Games should be stopped immediately,” he said, adding that Dikshit should take responsibility for all the corruption in projects implemented by the Delhi government.

“She should resign on her own. But, she should also be brought under the ambit of the probe as she is responsible for irregularities in the projects,” Gupta added.

The BJP leader announced that to press for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the irregularities, the party workers will stage a demonstration Oct 22 at Jantar Mantar in central Delhi.
