NEW DELHI - Hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists Friday demonstrated in the capital demanding removal of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and setting up of an inquiry against her in connection with the alleged irregularities in the Commonwealth Games.

The BJP protesters also said the Prime Minister’s Office should also be brought under the probe purview.

Shouting slogans against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Dikshit, the activists demonstrated at Jantar Mantar and also marched towards 7 Race Course, the residence of the prime minister, but were detained, police said.

“The party will not allow the government to shield anyone from the charges of corruption,” said BJP’s Delhi unit chief Vijendra Gupta.

The party’s national general secretary Vijay Goel said he told about corruption in the Games much earlier, but nobody listened to him and instead the government machinery continued to commit one bungling after another.

Senior party leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra asked the party workers to be ready for “struggle” till corruption in the Games are exposed and corrupt people are punished.
