NEW DELHI - The Yamuna Sports Complex (YSC), venue for the table tennis competition of the Commonwealth Games, could soon become a training centre for the sport here.

The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) has decided to send a proposal to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for setting up a centre where Delhi’s top paddlers can practice.

“We do not have a permanent centre for our players here in Delhi, the biggest city of India. Now, we have a world-class facility and it will be a pity if it is not used by the budding players. I have already spoken to SAI officials about it and they are keen on the issue as well,” a top TTFI official told IANS.

New Delhi earlier had table tennis centres at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and Ludlow Castle but these are not functional at the moment.

Pravir Krishna, a SAI official and a special officer of the Commonwealth Games, said the legacy plans are on the ambit.

“It will be interesting to see how the legacy plans including the one at the YSC work out. I will be more than happy to help the TTFI in setting up a training centre there,” Krishna, who will meet TTFI officials next week to discuss the matter, told IANS.
