SAN FRANCISCO (GaeaTimes.com)- On Monday night, proving many critics wrong, the New Orleans Saints went on to win their season opening game against San Francisco 49ers with a 25-22 lead. It was the amazing last second 37-yard field goal by placekicker Garrett Hartley that provided the New Orleans with the winning points. The game that was being led by the New Orleans Saints from the beginning, went on to become a tie with few minutes remaining and as the adrenaline rushed high among the viewers, Garrett Hartley came up with that beautiful play.
The New Orleans Saints on Monday relied heavily on their defensive play. From the very beginning it was their defense that was seen at work restricting the scores of the San Francisco 49ers. While one minute 19 seconds remaining of the game, the New Orleans Saints were found leading with eight points. However, running back Frank Gore of the San Francisco 49ers went for a 82-yard drive and two-point conversion to bring the San Francisco 49ers to a 22-22 tie with its opponent.
The game tying 2 point conversion by Frank Gore, was first ruled out by the field referee who maintained that the ball was caught by tight-end Vernon Davis from quarterback Alex Smith out of the end zone. However, the San Francisco 49ers were endowed with the two points after a video review found otherwise. The game thereafter took an interesting turn as there were likely chances of its passing over to an over-time. However, New Orleans Saints who had received four turnovers from the San Francisco 49ers during the game proceeded 51 yards to set up that winning field goal by Garrett Hartley.
