Hauritz to return to natural bowling style, also to heed Ponting’s advice

SYDNEY - Australian spinner Nathan Hauritz, who appeared to be in disagreement with his skipper during India series over how to bowl, sees no contradiction in returning to his natural bowling style while also heeding the advice of Ricky Ponting.

Hauritz was adamant that he had bowl in the way that first brought him to the Australian side, but Ponting seemed equally sure Hauritz had to continue changing in order to be a more dangerous bowler.

Two weeks before the first Ashes Test, Hauritz said he was working on his own strengths and re-aligning himself with local conditions, while also keeping Ponting’s words in mind.

“I think at the end of the day I listen to whatever he says, he is in my eyes the best Test batsman in the world, and he’s faced a lot of spin,” Hauritz said of Ponting.

“I think as a cricketer you’ve still got to expand and become a better player. I’m still trying to do different things, but I need to get back to what I do and focus on that,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted him, as saying.

Commenting on the adjustment from subcontinental pitches to Australian grounds, Hauritz said he would have little trouble making the change.

“It’ll probably be easier for me because I didn’t bowl real well in India. I probably bowled a little more Australian lines at times,” he said.

“I haven’t really thought too much about the adjustment, the main thing for me is to get back to doing what I did when I first came on the scene and try not to change too much. India was a tough tour but definitely something I will learn a lot from,” Hauritz said. (ANI)
