LONDON - Manchester City have been told they must smash their own British transfer record by bidding 38 million pounds for Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko.
Dzeko is City’s No 1 New Year transfer target as they aim an assault on the Premier League title, The Sun reports.
But according to The Sun, German side Wolfsburg is going to fight to keep hold of their 24-year-old star man.
City will not be put off by the price tag, but they will turn their attention to out-of-form Liverpool ace Fernando Torres if Wolfsburg mess them about.
Wolfsburg’s ex-England boss Steve McClaren is already preparing the club’s fans for Dzeko’s departure.
McClaren said: “We’re hopeful that Edin remains. He is a world-class striker. But we’re in the football business and nothing is 100 per cent. We will see what happens.” (ANI)
