LONDON - Midfielder David Beckham’s loan deal from LA Galaxy to Tottenham will be completed in time by Friday, but the ace midfielder will not be able to play against his former club Manchester United, as he is short of the fitness level needed to compete in the Premier League.
After Beckham’s first day training with Spurs, manager Harry Redknapp said: “Manchester United this Sunday would be a non-starter even if he does sign. He is not fit to play yet and he knows that. It’s going to take him a few weeks to get back to anywhere near the fitness levels he’s used to.”
Tottenham wants Beckham on loan from Galaxy until mid-March, but the MLS side is sticking to its original demand that he reports back on February 10, following the mid-season shutdown in America.
Beckham is so keen to play in the Premier league that he is even ready to take a pay cut for a three-month loan move to Tottenham.
If the deal between Beckham and Tottenham Hotspur goes through, it would be the first time that the 35-year-old will be playing for an English club since he left Manchester United to join Real Madrid in 2003. (ANI)
