Liverpool boss Dalglish warns Torres ‘clubs will always be bigger than superstars’

LONDON - Delivering a stinging message to Fernando Torres, Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish said that anyone who thinks they are bigger than Liverpool is stupid and irresponsible.
Torres stunned Liverpool fans by demanding a transfer on Friday as Chelsea lined up their British record deal for him.
It immediately led to a backlash from club supporters, who have idolised him for the past four years.
Dalglish said: “It has happened a lot. People forget that. Players leave the club and players come in, though more have come into this club than gone. It’s no different now. People move on.”
“The most important thing is the club. More important and bigger than any individual, no matter who has been through it previously and who will in the future. The club is the club,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.
“I will never forget that and anyone who does is being a wee bit stupid and irresponsible,” he said.
Back in 1977, Dalglish was signed in a then record 440,000 pounds transfer from Celtic and went on to become the greatest player ever to play for Liverpool.
“I started at Celtic and moved on. But if Kevin had not gone, maybe I would not be here. Imagine. They must have thought it was the end of the world when I came in and Kevin left!
“When Ian Rush went to Juventus in 1987, Rushy enjoyed Italy that much he came back a year later. Players have gone in the past but an awful lot have come in and been fantastic for this club. The most important people at the club are the ones who want to be here,” said Dalglish. (ANI)
