LONDON - Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will start his summer spending spree with a 15 million pounds bid for Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell.

Ferguson has been an admirer of the England Under 21 midfielder for 18 months.

He considered a bid for Rodwell in January, but decided to hold off after learning that Everton would not let the 19-year-old go before the end of the season.

Ferguson also knows that this could be Paul Scholes’ last campaign and Michael Carrick is set to leave after the season with a year left on his contract and as there is no new deal on the cards.

Rodwell has been with Everton since he was seven years old, The Sun reports.

He first came to Ferguson’s attention as a sub in the Toffees’ 2009 FA Cup semi-final victory over United.

Rodwell misses today’s FA Cup tie at Chelsea after injuring his groin on England Under-21 duty earlier this month. (ANI)
