ISLAMABAD - Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has wished the national cricket team good luck in their endeavour to lift the coveted ICC World Cup 2011 trophy.

The video message shows the former military ruler sitting in front of the logo of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), his newly launched political party.

He begins by telling the Pakistan cricket team that he will be keenly following their matches, and goes on to advise the players to have confidence in themselves and their abilities, and to maintain discipline.

“I have firm belief that you can be the best in the world if you work as a team,” The Express Tribune quoted Musharraf, as saying in his message to the Pakistan squad.

Having been an avid fan and supporter of cricket during his years in Pakistan’s presidency, such a message was expected from the APML chief.ut, by giving out this message, Musharraf has also sparked a debate whether he is trying to garner publicity for his political career in Pakistan by cashing in on the patriotic spirit that has gripped the country.
