BARCELONA - Barcelona fans celebrated Wednesday their third big party in two weeks, as their team claimed the Champions League in Rome to seal a historic treble.
Thousands went out onto the streets in the Catalan city to celebrate the 2-0 win over Manchester United. The Champions League trophy joined those of La Liga and the King’s Cup, which Barca also claimed in the past 14 days.
This was the team’s first treble in its 110-year history, and also the first treble ever for a Spanish team.
Fans gathered at Canaletas Square, the traditional place for Barcelona’s title celebrations.
However, the real festivities were expected to take place Thursday. The victorious squad coached by Pep Guardiola was set to arrive in Barcelona at 6 p.m. to show off their trophy around the city.
