NAIROBI/ABUJA - A Nigerian fan of Manchester United killed four people and injured ten others when he drove a minibus into a crowd of Barcelona supporters, Nigerian police said Thursday.
The incident took place in the southeastern town of Ogbo after Wednesday’s Champions League final, which Barcelona won 2-0. The driver U-turned to plough into the rival supporters.
“The man confessed to doing it on purpose,” police spokeswoman Rita Inoma Abbey told the BBC. “He now says he doesn’t know why he did it, but it was an intentional act.”
Many Africans are fanatical fans of European teams, in particular the English Premier League teams.
A fan of Arsenal hanged himself in Kenya earlier this month after his team lost to Manchester United in the Champions League semi-final.
