Spurrier says he took Tebow omission too seriously
BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. — Steve Spurrier has another regret over his all-Southeastern Conference ballot — that he took his omission of Florida’s Tim Tebow from the first team so seriously.
The South Carolina coach said Thursday he made way too big a deal of not voting for the Heisman Trophy winning quarterback at the Southeastern Conference’s annual media gathering. There, Spurrier went into detail about how he let director of football operations Jamie Speronis fill it out the ballot, then only gave it a quick glance before signing off.
Spurrier says Speronis had Mississippi quarterback Jevan Snead as South Carolina’s first-team pick.
Spurrier called Tebow to apologize and got the SEC to change his selection.
