Delaware starts NFL-only betting after court upset

DOVER, Del. — Delaware’s three racetrack casinos are getting ready to offer NFL parlay betting when the regular season kicks off next week.

But the plans fall short of what Delaware state officials had hoped for. Their idea to raise state revenue with single-game betting on multiple sports hit a dead end with a federal appeals court.

So the casinos are going ahead with what’s allowed under a grandfather clause in federal law: Delaware can allow wagers on three or more NFL games at a time.

But it might be a tough sell for some bettors. The prizes can be higher with parlay bets, but the odds are steeper, too.

Either way, it’s a no-lose proposition for the state. They have a private contract to run the betting that protects them from incurring any losses.
