Gardner-Webb beats Mars Hill 58-14

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — Stan Doolittle threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns to lead Gardner-Webb to a 58-14 win over Mars Hill on Saturday.

Doolittle completed 16 of 23 passes and one interception for the Runnin’ Bulldogs. Patrick Hall had five carries for 84 yards and two touchdowns, while Nick Melton also caught five passes for 111 yards and a score.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs outgained the Tigers 526-183 and capitalized on six turnovers.

Tigers (1-1), a Division II program, scored first on Patrick Park’s 1-yard touchdown run. But the Runnin’ Bulldogs scored 58 straight points from that point.

Doolittle threw a 22-yard pass to Melton and a 38-yard touchdown to James Perry, giving Gardner-Webb a 24-7 lead at halftime.

Hall scored on runs of 58 and 18 yards in the second half to help seal the win.
