Mangini says he abided by NFL rules

BEREA, Ohio — Browns coach Eric Mangini says he abided by NFL rules last season in New York when former Jets quarterback Brett Favre played with a torn biceps tendon.

Favre, who needed surgery in the offseason, did not appear on an injury list and did not miss a game. He said the Jets were aware of his condition.

Mangini was fired after the Jets collapsed down the stretch and missed the playoffs. He said Thursday he followed league guidelines when filling out the weekly injury reports.

Favre said Wednesday in Minnesota he would have been receptive to sitting out games. He continued to play and threw nine interceptions as the Jets lost four of their last five games.

Favre and Mangini reunite Sunday when the Browns host the Vikings.
