Defense propels Drake past Marist 34-6

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Drake took advantage of six Marist turnovers to win 34-6 on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (2-0) led 13-6 at halftime and scored three touchdowns in the second half to put the game away. Patrick Oliver and Spencer Cady rushed for touchdowns, and Mike Piatkowski passed to Stephen Platek for the other score.

Platek caught 13 passes for 112 yards for the Bulldogs.

Drake’s defense dominated the game. The Bulldogs held Marist (1-1) to 181 yards of offense, including 38 yards rushing on 36 attempts. Marist fumbled four times and Chris Debowski threw two interceptions. Drake also registered seven sacks.

Drake has outscored its first two opponents 56-6.
