Cornell pulls away from Bucknell 33-9

ITHACA, N.Y. — Ben Ganter threw two touchdown passes for Cornell as the Big Red broke open a close game after the first quarter to beat Bucknell 33-9 on Saturday.

Cornell, in its season opener, scored 24 straight points after leading 9-7 in the first quarter. Ganter connected with Bryan Walters on a 30-yard touchdown pass for a 16-7 lead. Ganter’s other touchdown pass came in the fourth quarter. He completed 17 of 25 passes for 175 yards.

Cornell got touchdown runs from Randy Barbour and Stephen Liuzza.

Bucknell’s only touchdown came on a pass from Marcello Trigg to Justin Pulgrano in the first quarter. The Bison (1-2) closed the scoring with a safety in the fourth quarter.

Cornell’s defense limited the Bucknell ground attack to 135 yards on 46 carries. Trigg was intercepted once and completed only 12 of 28 passes.
