Delaware beats Delaware State 27-17
NEWARK, Del. — Pat Devlin rushed for two touchdowns and passed for a score to lead Delaware to a 27-17 win over Delaware State on Saturday.
It was the first regular-season meeting between the state’s only two Division I Football Championship Series programs.
Devlin completed 19 of 29 passes for 227 yards and one interception, also rushing for 27 yards on eight carries for the Blue Hens (2-1). He connected with Rob Jones on a 17-yard score to put Delaware ahead 21-3 with 10:56 left in the game.
The Hornets (0-2) cut the score to 21-10 with 5:01 remaining when Jerome Strums returned an interception 71 yards for a touchdown. But Delaware answered with a 3-yard touchdown run by Leon Jackson to claim a 17-point lead.
Anthony Glaud completed 23 of 40 passes for 208 yards for Delaware State. He also scored on a 1-yard run with 31 seconds left in the game.
