Shepard leads S. Dakota past Drake 51-21
VERMILLION, S.D. — Quarterback Noah Shepard tied the school record by rushing for five touchdowns Saturday to lead South Dakota past Drake 51-21.
Shepard scored on runs of 1, 3, 1, 9 and 6 yards, all in the first half. He carried 13 times for 66 net yards and completed 15 of 23 passes 201 yards.
Shepard also threw a 5-yard scoring pass to London Landry. Isaac Newton ran 15 yards for a TD, and Dustin Nowotny’s field goal rounded out the scoring for South Dakota.
The Coyotes (2-1) outgained Drake 433-220 and put up more than 50 points for the second time this season.
Tom Kostek and Stephen Platek ran for TDs for Drake (2-1), and Spencer Cady caught a 15-yard scoring pass from Mike Piatkowski.
