HAMBURG - Bundesliga leaders SV Hamburg are to test Polish striker Ebi Smolarek who is without a club after a loan spell at Premier League side Bolton Wanderers.
The club said on its website Smolarek would arrive Tuesday and spend several days training with the squad.
Hamburg are searching for a striker after the loss of Paolo Guerrero, who will be sidelined for several months with a cruciate ligament tear.
Coach Bruno Labbadia is down to two strikers in Croatian Mladen Petric and Swede Marcus Berg, plus two 19-year-old reserves.
Smolarek, 28, was under contract at Spanish side Racing Santander where he was then loaned to Bolton Wanderers.
He is now without a club and has been keeping himself fit at his home in the Netherlands.
The three-time Polish football of the year has scored 19 goals in 43 games for Poland. He scored 25 goals in 81 games during a spell for Borussia Dortmund from January 2005 to July 2007.
