Albany defeats Sacred Heart 22-9

ALBANY, N.Y. — David McCarty rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown in Albany’s (N.Y) 22-9 win over Sacred Heart on Saturday.

The Great Danes (2-2, 1-0) outgained the Pioneers 185-71 on the ground in the Northeast Conference opener for both teams.

Albany’s Herb Glass opened the game with two field goals and Vinny Esposito added a 24-yard touchdown pass to Justin Gannon late in the second quarter for a 13-3 lead late in the second quarter.

Esposito was 11-for-22 with 144 yards and a touchdown for the Great Danes.

Glass connected on his third field goal of the game to give Albany a 22-9 lead at halftime.

Tyler McKeon had 118 yards on 8-for-16 passing to lead the Pioneers (0-3, 0-1).

Matt Fisher scored all of Sacred Heart’s points on three field goals.

Sacred Heart turned the ball over three times, including two interceptions by Dale Fink.
