E. Washington runs over Sacramento State 56-30
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Taiwan Jones rushed for a career-high 191 yards and four touchdowns Saturday night to help Eastern Washington defeat winless Sacramento State 56-30.
The victory was the second straight Big Sky Conference win for the Eagles (3-1, 2-0), who were coming off a 16-0 shutout of Northern Colorado.
Matt Nichols completed 18 of 28 passes for 255 yards and one touchdown for Eastern Washington, which built a 35-9 halftime lead. The Eagles are 10-0 road games against Sacramento State (0-3, 0-1).
The loss was the third straight for the Hornets, who were coming off a bye following humbling losses to UNLV and Cal State San Luis Obispo.
Hornet quarterback Jason Smith completed 26 of 34 passes for 320 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Brandyn Reed had a career-best eight receptions for 141 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
