Bucknell beats Marist 17-16 on blocked extra point
LEWISBURG, Pa. — Michael Tonge blocked an extra point with 48 seconds remaining and Bucknell beat Marist 17-16 on Saturday.
With Marist trailing 17-10, O’Neil Anderson scored on a 2-yard run but Jason Myers’ extra-point attempt was blocked by Tonge. The blocked capped a final 5 minutes that saw the two teams combine for 16 points.
Anderson led Marist with 133 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries.
The Bison (2-2) have beaten the Red Foxes (1-3) five straight times.
Bucknell scored 10 straight points to turn a three-point deficit into a 17-10 lead. Drew Orth hit a 33-yard field goal with 4:54 left to tie the game 10-10, then Marcello Trigg gave Bucknell the lead on a 2-yard touchdown run with 1:51 to play.
Anderson’s touchdown was set up by a 73-yard kickoff return for Marist to the Bucknell 17.
Marist outgained Bucknell 368-168 in total yards.
