Gardner-Webb beats Charleston Southern 27-20
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — Patrick Hall scored on a 16-yard run with 22 seconds left to lift Gardner-Webb to a 27-20 win over Charleston Southern on Saturday.
The Runnin’ Bulldogs started the game-winning drive on their own 22-yard line with 1:50 remaining after the Buccaneers tied the game at 20-20.
Stan Doolittle sparked the 78-yard drive with 34 yards in the air and 7 yards rushing.
Doolittle finished with 184 yards on 16-of-25 passing and Hall had 118 yards and three touchdowns on three carries for Gardner-Webb (4-2, 2-0 Big South).
Charleston Southern brought the deficit to 20-19 when Josh Atkinson caught an 11-yard TD pass from A.J. Toscano. The Buccaneers (2-4, 0-1) then kicked the extra point for the tie rather than attempting a 2-point conversion.
Toscano was 11 of 33 for 144 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
