Hofstra holds off Rhode Island 28-16
KINGSTON, R.I. — Steve Probst threw one touchdown and ran for another score to lead Hofstra to a 28-16 win over Rhode Island on Saturday.
Probst, who split time with Cory Christopher at quarterback for the Pride (4-3, 2-2 Colonial Athletic Association), was 4-for-6 passing with 112 yards and a touchdown. He added 60 yards rushing and a touchdown on seven carries.
Christopher was 11-for-15 passing with 111 yards.
Coming out of halftime with a 7-3 lead, Probst threw an 89-yard touchdown to Anthony Nelson and ran for a 29-yard score to put the Pride up 21-3 going into the fourth.
After Anthony Ferrer’s 1-yard touchdown run pulled the Rams (1-5, 0-3) within 21-9, Miguel Maysonet ran for a 24-yard score to give the Pride a 28-9 cushion with 1:19 to play.
Nelson had 117 receiving yards on four catches, and Maysonet finished with 83 rushing yards on 13 carries.
