Wofford holds off Western Carolina 35-26
CULLOWHEE, N.C. — Five different players scored touchdowns for Wofford as the Terriers held off Western Carolina for a 35-26 win on Saturday, snapping a four-game losing skid.
Michael Scott, Mike Rucker, Mitch Allen and Stev Davitte all scored rushing touchdowns for the Terriers (2-5, 1-3 Southern Conference), and Ben Wilmoth recovered Scott’s goal-line fumble for their final TD. Scott finished with a team-high 92 yards rushing.
Allen’s 23-yard touchdown, Wilmoth’s recovery and Davitte’s 12-yard scamper put Wofford up 21-0 after the first quarter.
The Catamounts (1-6, 1-4) battled back with 1-yard touchdown runs from Mike Johnson and Dion Wilson to pull within 28-14 at halftime.
Johnson’s 13-yard touchdown and Wilson’s second 1-yarder got the Catamounts within 28-26 just seconds into the fourth, but Rucker’s 3-yard touchdown with 4:52 left sealed the win.
