South Dakota State defeats Youngstown State 17-3

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Kyle Minett rushed for 87 yards and scored two second-half touchdowns to lead South Dakota State to a 17-3 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday.

The Jackrabbits (7-1, 6-0 Missouri Valley Conference) are off to their best start since 1963 and held an opponent without a touchdown for the third time this season. South Dakota State entered the game giving up an average of 12.6 points a game, fifth in the Football Championship Subdivision.

Leading 10-3, the Jackrabbits took control of the game with a nine-play, 66-yard drive that was capped by Minett’s 1-yard run for a 17-3 lead with 4:51 left in the game.

Minett’s 5-yard run gave South Dakota State a 10-3 lead with 11:11 left in the third quarter.

Ryan Crawford was 19-for-28 for 178 yards for the Jackrabbits.

Brandon Summers was 19-for-29 for 181 yards for Youngstown State (4-4, 2-3).
