Mike Leach, Texas Tech coach has been suspended on Monday afternoon following an allegation of mistreatment of a player.. Texas Tech announced the decision after receiver Adam James and his father, ESPN analyst and former SMU running back Craig James, complained to the school about alleged mistreatment after the player sustained a serious head injury.
According to reports, Leach has send Adam into a darkened room after he came to practise wearing sunglasses to ease the discomfort of a recent mild concussion.
The family alleges that Mike Leach arranged to confine James to an equipment room for three hours and to an electrical closet during two different days of practise sessions.
Leach is currently being investigated by the school. He is now the second Big 12 coach to come under fire in recent weeks for alleged mistreatment of players.
Texas Tech head coach, apparently has not denied his treatment of the player and did not follow a demand from the school to issue an apology, which resulted in Monday’s suspension.
Meanwhile, the news of Coach Leach’s suspension spread across the Red Raider fan base. Despite the distraction, fans still anticipate a Red Raider victory on Saturday.
Craig James had been scheduled to work as an analyst for Saturday’s Alamo Bowl, but he has been removed from the broadcast team after the controversy with Leach.
Defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeill will assume the head coaching duties on an interim basis while the 8-4 Red Raiders prepare to meet Michigan State in Saturday’s Alamo Bowl.
