MOHALI - Left-arm fast bowler Irfan Pathan Thursday said he is only focusing on performing well and is hopeful of again cementing his place in the national squad in the coming months.

“I am only focusing on performing well and it will automatically lead to a comeback into the Indian side. Though last year I could not do much in the international cricket, I am quite satisfied with my ongoing form in the domestic cricket,” Pathan said while talking to reporters here.

“There is immense competition at the international stage and I do not regret that I was dropped from the team. But I have learnt many things during this period, and right now I am working very hard on my bowling. I am all set to grab all the opportunities coming my way and to make a strong comeback,” he added.

Pathan, who also plays for Indian Premier League’s (IPL) franchisee team Kings XI Punjab, was here Thursday to watch the finals of Kings XI Punjab Cup at Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium.

Talking on the issue of captaincy of Kings XI Punjab, he said that it does not make much difference who leads because it all depends on team work.

“Last year we did not have great time in IPL but this time our team is all set to prove its competence before the world. Our players are in good nick and we are ready to give a tough competition to any side,” Pathan said.

On accepting captaincy of this IPL team, he said: “I would love to take up this responsibility but it is all up to the franchisee to decide.”
