Cameron White doesn’t like being called ‘Roy’

ADELAIDE - Victorian Cameron White has this summer becomes Ricky Ponting’s new saviour and there is a view that he is Australia’s rock in the middle order, but there is one thing he doesn’t like - being called “Roy”, the nickname of former Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds.
Having scored a man-of-the-match century at the Gabba on Friday and a magnificent under-pressure half-century at the SCG on Sunday, White has distanced himself from being hailed as the “new Roy” and only wants to further improve his own game in today’s third one-dayer against Pakistan in Adelaide.
“Andrew was a fantastic player and he was a great player for a long time, but it’s a bit unfair to compare me to Andrew,” the Daily Telegraph quoted White, as saying.
“I’m enjoying my role of playing freely and naturally at No. 5 and, when I get my chance towards the end of the innings, it’s good to try and hit a few fours and sixes. But I’m not sure about comparisons to Andrew,” he added.
Ponting said the powerhouse Victorian has brought the “X-factor to Australia’s middle order”, something Symonds did regularly in the 50-over game.
“He [White] can’t have played any better than the last couple of games he’s played, or the last dozen games actually,” Ponting said after Australia’s 140-run thumping of Pakistan in Sydney.
Such has been White’s impact in two one-day matches, there have even been some rumblings of returning the blond all-rounder to the Test squad.
White, however, said that was not his call and he could only focus on trying to bash plenty of runs in limited-overs cricket. (ANI)
