Whistler memorial for Georgian luger moved
WHISTLER, British Columbia — A memorial for the Georgian luger who died on the Olympic track is being moved to a quieter spot.
Whistler officials and Vancouver organizers say they will place the flowers, cards and remembrances for Nodar Kumaritashvili a short distance from its place at Whistler Medals Plaza.
The move is only a few yards or so. The new location will allow mourners to pay respects in a “more reflective and calm environment.”
Officials from the Georgian National Olympic Committee were consulted about the move.
The 21-year-old luger died hours before the opening ceremony.
