AUCKLAND - New Zealand’s cricketers are likely to get more opportunities to join the lucrative Indian Premier League in the wake of reports of a bidding process being started for two extra franchises.
The New Zealand Herald quoted New Zealand Cricket Players’ Association director Heath Mills, as saying that an increased number of teams “would suggest there would be more opportunities for the guys”.
But, he said, there was no certainty New Zealanders would benefit.
“We haven’t really got a lot of players in the IPL compared to other countries so it’s not a foregone conclusion more players will be signed.”
Daniel Vettori, Shane Bond, Brendon McCullum, Jacob Oram and Ross Taylor are scheduled to play in this year’s IPL, starting next week. (ANI)
