ST. LOUIS (GaeaTimes.com)- On Saturday, it seemed that the audience were going to witness the longest baseball game ever. The Major league baseball game between New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals went on Saturday night for 20 innings before the former was able to get the victory on St. Louis Cardinals with the final scores being 2-1. Though the game was not able to beat the record of 33 innings professional baseball game play between Pawtucket Red Sox and Rochester Red Wings back in the year 1981, which is considered the longest baseball game ever played, it was able to create many small records on Saturday night.

The 20 innings game according to some is the longest professional baseball game played since the last two years. Such a long game was last played back in the year 2008 between Colorado Rockies and San Diego. On Saturday night, it seemed that none of the teams were in a mood to allow the game to pass on the hands of the opponents. Each team put forward a great play and due to this the game remained scoreless till the 18th innings.

Both the teams put forward a brilliant play in the 19th innings scoring 1 each and leading to the next innings. In the twentieth innings, the New York Mets were able to get the lead by scoring another point. New York Mets’ Angel Pagan was able to score as his teammate Jose Reyes went for a sacrifice fly. The other top performers in the Saturday night game on the New York Mets side were Francisco Rodriguez and Mike Pelfrey. According to reports, the game was also the longest baseball game played by the New York Mets since 1974.
