NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- Francisco Rodriguez, the New York Mets closer was arrested by the authorities on Wednesday night following a scuffle at Citi Field with a family member who is believed to be his father-in-law. Police officials have divulged that with respect to the case, the 28-year-old baseball player would be charged with third-degree assault. The incident that led to the detention of Francisco Rodriguez is said to have taken place in a tunnel which is situated just outside the clubhouse of the team after New York Mets were defeated by Colorado Rockies by 6-2.

Lt. Mike Wysokowski has divulged to the media that Francisco Rodriguez was taken into custody after he was involved in an ugly fight with a family member who is believed to be his wife’ father. Following the fight, the 53-year-old man is said to have been taken to Flushing Hospital after he suffered a scrape on his face and also injured on his head. Later, the New York Mets player was detained by the cops and he is expected to be arraigned on Thursday. In the meanwhile, the circumstances that led to the ugly scuffle between the player and his family member is not immediately clear as even the authorities could not shed much light into the matter.

Just moments before Francisco Rodriguez fought with his father-in-law, the New York Mets closer who was understandably quite agitated after his team’s loss, was also involved in a heated altercation with the reporters who had gathered at the game. The player’s agent Paul Kinzer has also not been available for comments in this regard.
