Caster Semenya makes rare public appearance
PRETORIA, South Africa — Caster Semenya has made a rare public appearance to launch the Caster Semenya Sports Academy.
The 19-year-old Semenya, who has been at the center of a gender dispute, was wearing a green and yellow training top and striped hat Wednesday. She appeared alongside coach Michael Seme.
Semenya has not run since winning the women’s 800-meter title at the world championships in August. The IAAF is expected to release her gender test results in June, and Semenya says she will return to competition on June 24 at a meet in Zaragoza, Spain.
Media manager Mthokozisi Xulu said Semenya will be president of the academy.
