Algeria coach drops captain Mansouri vs. Slovenia

UVONGO, South Africa — Algeria coach Rabah Saadane says he will bench captain Yazid Mansouri for the team’s World Cup opener against Slovenia on Sunday because his form is not good enough.

The veteran midfielder trained with his teammates at Algeria’s training camp south of Durban, but did not speak to reporters at the team’s training session Thursday.

Mansouri plays for Lorient in France.

Algeria also meets the United States and England in Group C.
