LANSING (GaeaTimes.com)- Michigan State University President Lou Anna K Simon announced in the press conference on Tuesday night that Tom Izzo will stay put as the Spartan coach. The news which is sure to spark off celebrations in Lansing was confirmed by Tom Izzo himself who gave a speech clarifying his stance. The star coach was introduced in the press conference by the MSU Athletic Director Mark Hollis.
During his speech, Tom Izzo explained the various factors that led to his final decision. He said that the $30 million offer by the Cleveland Cavaliers and the opportunity to coach LeBron James was definitely something he contemplated. He jokingly passed the blame to his son who was interested in a one-on-one with LeBron James. He said that this was a big decision of his life and so he spoke to his wife and family before deciding to stay on. He also said that it was the people who come back to the MSU, in spite of moving on to bigger things, that makes the place so special. According to him there was a family atmosphere that made people become very attached to the organization. He said that he could make the decision only after talking to the ‘pro guys’ and his daughter who did not want to leave the team that her father had helped build from scratch.
Mark Hollis added that he wanted to make the MSU the best athletic department in the country and for that he needed Tom Izzo who has been the face of the team for ages now. Tom Izzo however said that LeBron James’ decision had nothing to do with his decision to stay back.
