Australia tied 1-1 with Ghana

RUSTENBURG, South Africa — Australia has had Harry Kewell sent off and Ghana scored from the resulting penalty kicks as the teams are locked 1-1 after 30 minutes of their Group D World Cup match.

Standing on the goal line, Kewell was struck on the arm by Jonathan Mensah’s shot and received a straight red card on 24 minutes. Asamoah Gyan converted the penalty, his second such goal of the tournament.

Earlier, Brett Holman scored from close range in the 11th minute after Ghana goalkeeper Richard Kingson bobbled a free kick by Mark Bresciano.

Kewell was playing his first game of the tournament after being left out of the opening loss to Germany.
