DULUTH, MINNESOTA (GaeaTimes.com)- This weekend would surely be something to look forward to for the residents of Duluth in Minnesota as the port city would hold witness to the 34th annual Grandma’s Marathon 2010 which is all set to commence on Saturday. The city would take a completely different look as large number of runners would be participating in the event spanning across the city from the town of Two Harbors while continuing into Lake Superior into Duluth. Thousands of runners from countries across the world would be taking part in the Grandma’s Marathon when it is initiated on Saturday before it finally reaches its conclusion in Canal Park, near the Grandma’s Restaurant.
Apart from the new athletes who would be participating in Grandma’s Marathon 2010, the event would also witness the presence of some of the athletes who were successful in winning widespread accolades for themselves in the previous years. Expectations would indeed be high from 33 year old Mary Akor, who would be participating in today’s event to register her fourth successive victory in the women’s category. Although winning the race is not something that is unusual for Mary Akor, the circumstances under which she is participating in the event is surely unusual. The much acclaimed athlete is suffering from fibroid tumor in her uterus and is said to have delayed her surgery in order to take in the Grandma’s Marathon this year.
Meanwhile, anticipation would also be high for American athlete Chris Raabe when he runs in the Grandma’s Marathon 2010 after he was successful in clinching last year’s title in the men’s category.
