CHARLOTTESVILLE (GaeaTimes.com)- Manute Bol, one of the finest shot blocker and undoubtedly the tallest player to have ever played in the National Basketball Association League is no more. The Sudanese player who had played 10 seasons on the NBA died on Saturday. The death of the 47 year-old player was confirmed by the spokeswoman of the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville who did not disclose the exact cause of the death of Manute Bol. An associate of the former player has revealed to the media sources that Manute Bol had been receiving medication for severe kidney problem and some unknown but painful skin condition.
The death of the 7-foot-7 player who has been involved with many NBA teams during his 10 seasons in the game has left the NBA fraternity shocked and sad. The President and the general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers, Ed Stefanski remembered Manute Bol as a person who was “continually giving of himself through his generosity and humanitarian efforts” to build a world around him that would be a much better place to live in. It is this sentiment that perhaps ran through the player who after his retirement went back to his motherland Sudan to restore peace in a country torn by civil war. Manute Bol had been an active peace activist who had continually tried in his life time to build a Sudan free from war and crime.
Back in 2004 during an interview Manute Bol has said that it is God who has guided him to America and provided him with a good job adding at the same time that he had also been provided with a heart that would “look back”. Tom Prichard the executive director of Sudan Sunrise said on Saturday that Sudan and the world have “lost a hero” who was an example for all the people of Sudan.
