Ghana leads US 1-0 at halftime in 2nd round
RUSTENBURG, South Africa — Kevin-Prince Boateng has given Ghana a 1-0 lead against the United States in their World Cup second-round match.
U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard was beaten at the near post by Boateng’s low shot in the 5th minute. The Ghana midfielder shot from the edge of the penalty area after racing through unchallenged from the halfway line, where Ricardo Clark lost possession.
Robbie Findley squandered a chance to level in the 35th with a shot blocked by goalkeeper Richard Kingson’s outstretched left leg.
At the other end, Howard used his legs to deny Kwadwo Asamoah from close range.
The winner will meet Uruguay on Friday.
Ghana is the only African team remaining in the World Cup.
