Ghana, Uruguay tied at 0-0 after 15 minutes
JOHANNESBURG — Ghana and Uruguay are off to a shaky start in their World Cup quarterfinals match at Soccer City.
Uruguay’s passing is smoother, and it threatened in the third minute when Alvaro Fernandez delivered a cross which flashed high across the goal mouth.
Forward Luis Suarez created a shooting chance in the 10th, but his right-foot curler was caught by goalkeeper Richard Kingson.
For Ghana, Kwadwo Asamoah shot wide from distance in the eighth when a free kick was cleared to him.
Ghana would be the first African team ever to reach a World Cup semifinal.
Uruguay last reached the semifinals 40 years ago.
The winner plays the Netherlands next Tuesday.
