SYDNEY - Australia has called pacer Clint McKay as a spare bowler due to Ben Hilfenhaus’ shoulder injury ahead of the second Test against Pakistan.

Hilfenhaus injured his left shoulder diving for a ball on the fourth and final day of Australia’s 150-run opening Test win at Lord’s on Friday.

South Australian fast bowler Peter George is set to make his Test debut in the match starting on Wednesday at Headingley if Hilfenhaus is unable to play, tall.

A team spokesman said that Hilfenhaus’ shoulder was showing signs of improvement.

“(Team physiotherapist) Alex Kountouris has been working with Ben Hilfenhaus for the past 24 hours, he reported he has a sore shoulder from the incident in the Test match but that he was a bit better this morning,” the spokesman said.

“Clint McKay is being brought in as a cover player and he will arrive here tonight as a precaution. Ben has travelled up with us and is improving, but the selectors felt it was appropriate to call up Clint,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted him, as saying.

McKay has been playing for English county side Yorkshire since finishing up his duties with the Australia one-day side in their recent 3-2 series loss to England. (ANI)
