ST. PETERSBURG (GaeaTimes.com)- The Cleveland Indians on Wednesday traded its veteran third baseman Jhonny Peralta to the Detroit Tigers that provided them with a minor league left-hander player Giovanni Soto. The trade was carried out by the Detroit Tigers in an attempt to bring some respite to its injury-ridden team which has some of its veteran players out of the field. The Cleveland Indians not only traded Jhonny Peralta to the Detroit Tigers, but also provided the latter with some cash considerations that will help to cover up the remainder of the $4.6 million salary of Jhonny Peralta for this season.

Dave Dombrowski, the general manager of Detroit Tigers said to media sources after the trade that he was trying for long to do something to help the ballclub. The general manager added that according to him this trade will help the ballclub “with a solid big league player”. Dave Dombrowski added that the team already has a bunch of young players and in the present situation; inclusion of Jhonny Peralta gives the team another veteran player. Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland said that the trade sends the “right message” to the team.

The Detroit Tigers in the recent past have seen some of its crucial players leaving the field with injuries. Its third baseman Brandon Inge is recuperating from broken left hand and would take some time to return to the field. Second baseman Carlos Guillen is out with strained right calf and is not expected to join the team in the coming two weeks. All these had necessitated the inclusion of Jhonny Peralta who will be replacing Brandon Inge in the team.
